The second release from Slane Irish Whiskey’s new Wood Series
Following on from the successful launch of Slane Special Edition earlier this year, Slane Irish Whiskey have announced the second release from their new Wood Series — Slane Extra Sherry Wood.
Created using Slane Irish Whiskey’s signature triple casked method – which sees the liquid mature separately, before being blended, using virgin American white oak casks, seasoned Tennessee casks raised by hand at the Brown-Forman cooperages and Oloroso sherry casks from Spain. This new whiskey goes an interesting step further by ramping up the proportion of sherry casks in the blend, producing a whiskey with a more pronounced and distinctive sherry flavour profile.
The winning result for whiskey lovers is an even deeper flavour experience with notes of dried dark fruits, baking spice and hints of rich chocolate. This is a full, complex and smooth expression of a new Slane Irish Whiskey which can stand on its own or on the rocks, as well as beautifully anchoring a wide variety of whiskey-based cocktails.
Alex Conyngham, co-founder of Slane Irish Whiskey, said:
“Slane Distillery is set in the heart of a beautiful 1,500-acre estate in the Boyne Valley, where 350 acres of that estate is dedicated to woodland that is rich in biodiversity. My family, who have lived on the estate for over three centuries, and the Slane Distillery team are passionate about protecting and expanding these woodlands”
“Wood has always played a crucial part in the Irish whiskey-making process and for our team you could say it’s a part of our brand DNA. We have always been hugely inspired by the impact different wood casks have on the taste of our core blend and this natural experimentation led us to establish the Wood Series, which has been an exceptional contribution to the brand portfolio.”
Crafted in Slane Distillery, under the creative direction of Distillery Manager and Master Distiller Dr Gearóid Cahill and his team, Slane Extra Sherry Wood has also been bottled at a robust 45% ABV in comparison to the Slane core blend at 40% ABV – helping to deepen and intensify the individual notes and aromas which have been introduced through the proportion of extra sherry casks used in this whiskey making process.
Presented in its distinctive and striking black glass bottle with the embossed Conyngham family crest, Slane Extra Sherry Wood is an exclusive offer to travellers who are interested in more unique Irish whiskey expressions which are not widely available in the domestic market.
